Conduit

What is it about poetry
That distinguishes fate?
The feelings we start with
The roads that we take
The important thing always
Is to look around
Not be so discerning
That you dont leave the ground
To be ever present
To be conscious of self
To see all the movement
Both the bold and the stealth
Remembering always to
Describe in a way
That will grasp onto feeling
Make the impermanent stay
Include all the details
That in themselves bring
Another side of your story
That you now can sing
The poetry lifts you from
An ignorant stupor
It piques at your conscious
And threatens to eat you
To be still and humble
A conduit for
The muse when she beckons
So you write some more
Speak of the truth
Say it out aloud
Give yourself permission
To be out and proud
The poem will tell you
Much more about
The person you really are
And what weakness you flout
Dont give up on trying
Stay ahead of the game
Keep yourself educated
So you dont stay the same
I dont really know
What creates a poet
If its the work that I do
Or if the spark's in the edit
Just realise you'll probably
Be always tweaking
Be proud of yourself but
Always be seeking
To make your verse better
To magically rhyme
To find in another
A conducive line
