The house it stood there proudly

While the wind whipped up the leaves

The autumnal shades bespoking

Of weather's tiredness, how it grieves

The shingles on the roof appear

To be a part of rusted vision

A fatigue and a weariness

The need to make decisions

The weathered beams that make up all

The walls and verandahs round

Are painted in a conducive shade

An orange sort of brown

Thankfully the owners of

This mountain cottage high

Have tended to the grass and raised

The flags up high to fly

An American flag is raised before

This dwelling out the back

Of Appalachian mountains

And the people who cop flak

The locals are accused of being

Rednecks and the like

But everyone who likes outdoors

Goes there for a hike

The countryside is beautiful

Especially days like these

While autumn sun is setting

And there's a slightly chiller breeze
